Description Didi Hirsch is seeking a Bilingual Peer Specialist to ensure a safe, nurturing environment for clients that foster a sense of hope, dignity and direction.

Please Note: This position requires certification as a peer specialist/advocate through the completion of a qualifying training program and have navigated the mental health system as a consumer or lived experience in substance use/addiction recovery, or mental health.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates peer-led groups and individual peer counseling sessions.
  • Maintains documentation of all groups and individual counseling sessions; ensures compliance with Didi Hirsch policies and procedures, contracts and other regulatory agencies.
  • Provides crisis intervention and facilitates conflict resolution among the program participants.
  • Leads peer run group-sponsored trips and social functions;.
  • Develops and maintains peer advocate skills through seminars, workshops or other forms of training/education.
  • Consults with management before making decisions about programming and services.
  • Attends and actively participates in all team and staff meetings, community meetings and supervision/consultation.
  • Provides linkage, case management and advocacy services to Wellness Center consumers.


Requirements Required Qualifications

  • Certified as peer specialist through the completion of a qualifying training program and have navigated the mental health system as a consumer or lived experience in substance use/ addiction recovery or mental health.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to provide services in both English and Armenian preferred.
  • Have a working knowledge of peer social support services including peer led groups.
  • Support the values and mission of Didi Hirsch as related to employment.
  • Know and comply with Didi Hirsch Agency policies and procedures, HIPAA, DMH,  policies and documentation guidelines, and other state, federal regulations relating to program.
  • Basic advocacy skills.
  • Present ideas, information and viewpoints clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Efficiently use the personal computer including word processing and electronic chart system software.
  • Utilize analysis, experience, and judgment to make decisions within policies and practices.
  • Demonstrate commitment to team objectives and Didi Hirsch philosophies
  • Adapt to changing needs by acquiring new skills and knowledge.
  • Current California driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Agency’s insurance carrier.
  • Training (Certificate) in Peer Counseling.
  • May be required to possess language fluency in a second language and be culturally competent in its associated ethnicity.
